
From quantitative policy to qualitative values
Over the last decades, managers and officeholders have set up a system of quantitative assessments to measure academic performance. Government policies too, so-called ‘performance agreements’, have pushed the university towards a crude quantitative assessment of its scientific output. Thusly, the quality of education and research are put under stress. DAG calls for a shift towards a more qualitative, non-reductionist evaluation of research. It wants to disavow the meaningless and quantitative assessment system that currently has researchers in a chokehold, and reduces students to box-tickers, smothering both human creativity ánd our education system.
